In this follow-up to What's Your Angle, Pythagoras? for readers 6 to 9, Julie Ellis and Phyllis Hornung Peacock again look in on the ancient Greek mathematician as a youth. Pythagoras's cousin Octavius is keen to win a musical contest, and so asks him to tune up his panpipes. Together the cousins find the relationship between the lengths of the pipes and their tones—and that two sets of pipes tuned the same way can be played in harmony together. Then his cousins Reyna and Amara want Pythagoras to retune their lyres so they can join in. Illustrated with Greek-styled painted cartoons, the book notes similar experiments in tuning that the real Pythagoras may have performed.
