This 1963 James Bond film, the second of the series, was suggested by John F. Kennedy's comment that it was his favorite Bond story (it turned out to be the last movie he watched at the White House) and is considered one of the best Bond films ever made. Sean Connery again stars as secret agent 007, sent to intercept a defecting Soviet agent (Daniela Bianchi) with a long-sought-after decoding machine. But it is a trap, as SPECTRE agents Krebb (Lotte Lenya) and Grant (Robert Shaw) try to discredit and assassinate Bond. The movie's theme song—written by John Barry, Lionel Bart, and Monty Norman—was nominated for a Golden Globe. This is one of the series of films inspired by the novels of Ian Fleming, which has become one of the longest running, most successful film series in history, kicking off the "spy craze" of the 1960s and setting the benchmark for espionage action films. Sean Connery created the original, iconic role of Bond, while Roger Moore and others have each added their own particular spin to the character.
