Description

This book investigates the largely unexplored terrain of the lives of Baul Gurus (Bengali mystics whose cultural influence in India is felt primarily though their minstrel songs) by studying the autobiography of the Baul Guru Raj Krishna (1869–1946), and situating Baul songs in a larger socio-historical perspective. The author traces the life and beliefs of Raj and his disciples through both oral and written sources. This volume includes a transliteration of Raj Krishna's original texts.
