An early light of the folk music revival, Susan Reed was introduced to Irish music by actors from Dublin's Abbey Theatre, who stayed with her family during U.S. tours. Poet Carl Sandburg (who put together the pioneering collection The American Songbag) was a family friend. While still in her teens, Reed sang at the Cafe Society, and she debuted at Town Hall in 1946. Life magazine called her "the pet of Manhattan nightclubbers [who] sit enraptured while Susie sings old Irish, English, Scottish and Appalachian ballads." The 13 tracks of this 1954 release include "Wraggle Taggle Gypsies," "The Foggy Dew," "He Moved Through the Fair," "Wallie, Wallie," "I Know My Love," and "The Leprechaun."
