(1992 Caldecott Medal Winner) The author-illustrator of such wordless masterpieces as The Three Pigs and Flotsam (both Caldecott Medal winners), David Wiesner won his first Caldecott for this nearly wordless fantasy for readers up to 8. At about 8:00 one Tuesday evening, just as the sun is setting, a few bullfrogs sitting peacefully in their pond are startled and then delighted when their lily pads start rising up into the air like little flying carpets. The few are soon joined by a multitude of airborne amphibians, who float around observing the town from their new perspective, and causing some small mischief for the few startled witnesses to their escapade. David Wiesner's personable frogs are a delight, getting tangled in clotheslines, watching the late show while hovering around a slumbering grandmother, and startling the birds and dogs who thought the night was theirs alone.
