The three-day festival of peace, love, and music was a defining moment for a generation coming of age during the turbulent 1960s. Director Michael Wadleigh's film adroitly captures both the moment and the music. Edited from over 300 hours of footage by a young filmmaker named Martin Scorsese, the film was released one year later, in 1970, to widespread acclaim, winning the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Newly remastered, this 40th Anniversary Director's Cut includes performances by 17 of the 32 acts at Woodstock including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Who, Jefferson Airplane, Sly & the Family Stone, Joaz Baez, Joe Cocker, Santana, Canned Heat, Country Joe & the Fish, and Crosby, Stills, & Nash, in just their second gig.
